Vets

Matt started Normanhurst Vet Practice in December 2010 with his Mobile Vet Service. In August 2011, his fully equipped modern vet clinic opened at Normanhurst. This practice is the culmination of a life-long dream to care for animals.

As a young boy, Matt was known to rescue injured lizards and try to nurse them back to health. He grew up with a blue cattle dog called Sam. Together, Matt and Sam shared so many experiences, including running through the rain, enjoying Sam’s birthdays with a cake, and sleeping on the couch together. When Sam became partially paralysed in his hind legs due to his spinal nerves being bruised in his narrow spinal canal, Matt knew he was in pain and wanted to find a way to help.

Matt went on to study Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney. From there, he worked at the RSPCA in Yagoona. While at the RSPCA, Matt met a whippet cross who was brought to the RSPCA as a stray dog with a broken leg. The dog had surgery to fix the fracture and needed 8 weeks rest to allow the fracture to repair. Matt took the dog home to help his recovery and called him Timmy, and he has stayed with Matt and his family ever since.

Matt then went to work in the Hills District and Hornsby Shire for the next eight years. During this time, Matt completed his four year Master of Veterinary Studies degree through Murdoch University. An article written by Matt for the Masters degree was published in a peer reviewed veterinary journal, Journal of Small Animal Practice. The article described treating dislocated ankles in dogs by immobilising the damaged joint rather than the traditional method which involves surgically fusing the joint.

The most recent addition to Matt's family is a rescue cat called Paddy. Paddy loves to release his youthful energy by rumbling with Timmy.

Through his journey, Matt has experienced firsthand how important a bond with a pet can be. From childhood through to adulthood, Matt has seen how pets enrich lives in so many ways that they really become an integral part of the family.

For Matt, it is a privilege to be able to support the bond between each pet and family by providing veterinary care to ensure each pet is happy, healthy, and has an enjoyable life.
